FieldConnex speeds up automation project
For the process automation system of its biodiesel plant in Schwedt, Germany, VERBIO decided to use a PROFIBUS fieldbus infrastructure. Pepperl+Fuchs was able to convince the project management with its FieldConnex product range, which supports an extremely simple and fast implementation.
VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG operates a high performance biodiesel manufacturing plant in Schwedt, Germany. The process automation system of this new facility was realized by the experts of ELCON Automation & Engineering GmbH. The fieldbus infrastructure used consists of 10 PROFIBUS PA and 6 PROFIBUS DP segments, connected to 6 controllers for some 1,300 I/Os, as well as the required zone 1 fieldbus installation technology.
System transparency as key criteria
ELCON decided to use the FieldConnex product range from Pepperl+Fuchs as the fieldbus interface technology throughout the plant. These products not only support fast and easy installation and implementation of the complete infrastructure. With technologies, such as Advanced Diagnostics, FieldConnex also allows continuous monitoring of the fieldbus physical layer, which greatly contributes to the availability and overall reliability of the plant.
Faster installation and implementation
Profibus field devices allow fast and easy offline configuration and comprehensive electronic documentation including MSR numbers, comments etc. In addition, Pepperl+Fuchs offers supporting tools, such as its Segment Checker, which greatly contributed to the fact that ELCON was able to realize the complete process automation system in Schwedt within a time frame of only 6 months.
