NEWEY & EYRE IS ALL FIRED UP WITH NEW FIRE AND CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS

7 November 2011

In light of recent changes to Parts B and J of the Building Regulations, Newey & Eyre has launched its new Newlec range of fire and carbon monoxide alarms designed to help installers meet these stringent new guidelines.

In a bid to raise safety standards, the smoke detection market has seen a definitive shift towards mains wired alarms, with a battery-back up and battery options for additional protection. In addition, the type of activation is also changing, with a move from traditional ionisation detectors in favour of optical, photo thermal and heat sensor products which offer additional benefits.

The extensive new Newlec range reflects these changes, offering installers the option to interlink as many as 12 mains powered smoke alarms, as well as offering LED indicators, aiding users in quickly identifying the reason behind an alarm signal. Ideal for new builds and materially altered dwellings, the new mains alarm features an optional integral 9V battery back-up, meaning there is protection even in the event of a power cut. Conversely, for applications on a budget, the Newlec battery powered alarm provides quick and reliable protection.

For a fully comprehensive solution, the Newlec series now includes optical smoke alarms, ionisation smoke alarms, heat detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. Optical smoke alarms offer a faster response to slow burning fires as they are able to detect the large and visible smoke particles. Ionisation smoke alarms are able to quickly detect fast flaming fires and are equipped with thermal enhancement technology which allows for a higher alarm threshold.

Equally important, heat alarms are should be specified in any places where a standard smoke alarm would not be suitable. With this in mind, the Newlec heat alarm is designed to detect fires above 77C and 92C, presenting an ideal option in areas where dust, flames and benign smoke may trigger false alarms which is often the case in industrial settings.

As a final consideration, the Newlec carbon monoxide alarms can aid compliance with BS EN 50292:2002 of the Building Regulations, which calls for CO alarms to be fitted in domestic applications in all rooms with appliances. The Newlec carbon monoxide alarm range is available in mains, battery and mains with battery back-up option.

Steve Havell, product category manager at Newey & Eyre, comments: “When installing any fire safety product, quality is paramount and in an emergency such as a fire, a product’s integrity is tested to the full. The newly extended series offers installers a choice in product to suit every conceivable application.

“The Newlec range has been designed to help our customers meet new legislation while still offering the same great quality and value for money.”
