Newey& Eyre has responded to one of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations changes with the launch of its Newlec IPXXD inserts designed to readily fit inside existing Newlec trunking joints, enabling contractors to ensure the installation complies with the amended standard. BS7671:2008 Amendment No. 1 was introduced in July 2011 and came into force for all new designs from January 2012. It requires trunking systems that use non-sheathed cables (i.e single insulated cables) to achieve an IP standard for the trunking system. The regulatory changes means the majority of metallic cable trunking systems are no longer suitable for use with single insulated cables as trunking systems must provide either IPXXD or IP4X protection. Newlec’s trunking is classified as IP30 and offers IPXXD protection when installed with the new insert. Ideal for new and uniquely for retrofit installations, the same part can be used for lengths and accessories. Location holes line up with the internal screw bushes and the top is hinged to allow cables to be readily fitted. Installation is completed by folding the top of the frame into a locating slot and fitting the cover as normal. The IPXXD inserts are available in four sizes for trunking dimensions 50x50mm, 75x75mm, 100x100mm and 150x150mm. Manufactured from natural, flame retardant, VO polypropylene sheet, they provide a safe and robust solution to meet trunking standards. Bob Masters, category manager for Newey& Eyre said: “The new IPXXD inserts provide an ideal solution for contractors looking to ensure both existing and new trunking installations meet standards. As a retrofitable component it offers a speedy solution and can be used with existing accessories and Newlec trunking so there is no need for new bends to be fitted.” For further information on Newey& Eyre call 0800 783 6909 or call into any local branch.
