Ex Rated: The new Signum® Ex Range from Sartorius

8 July 2013

The new Signum®Ex range offers incredible accuracy and robustness with full ATEX, FM/CSA and IECEx certification.

In areas working with hazardous materials, weighing technology has to abide by numerous stringent regulations. Here, factors such as build quality, the shielding of electrical components and overall safety stand in the foreground.

To fulfill all of these requirements, Sartorius is proud to announce the release of the Signum®Ex industrial scale series. The Signum®Ex combines the high levels of precision often associated with lab balances, with the durability and longevity of an industrial scale. Every model is supplied with Ex certification for international use in potentially explosive environments. This certification covers not only ATEX zone 1/2/21/22, but also FM/CSA class I, II, III Div. I and IECEx. With the purchase of a Signum®Ex, users can be sure they are getting the best combination of peace of mind, robustness and accuracy, that only rigorously tested Ex equipment can offer.

The monolithic weighing system allows for resolutions as high as 620,000d, and the hard wearing stainless steel or epoxy coated construction guarantees that the unit can handle all of the pressures incurred within industrial applications. The comprehensive Signum®Ex series is available in a wide variety of platforms and constructions for weighing ranges from 1 mg all the way up to 35kg.

All Signum®Ex scales are operated via the well-known Signum®3 controller. This top of the range unit offers users complete control of a diverse range of applications, such as formulation, checkweighing, totalizing, counting, classification, and SQ min with minimum sample weight. This diversity allows a single Signum® unit to perform multiple tasks across a production line.

A necessity for industrial scales is the ability to be resilient to a lot more than their lab-balance counterparts. Because of this, all Signum®Ex models are equipped with overload protection as high as 300kg and are supplied with IP65 protection.

No two application scenarios are the same. To facilitate the need for flexibility, the Signum®EX can be supplied in one of three different constructions. Users can choose between a securely fixed, front-mounted indicator as well as a column mounted version. For more flexible implementation, the Signum®3 controller can be connected via a sturdy 2m long flexible cable.

Because industrial equipment is regularly required to integrate alongside existing infrastructure, the Signum®Ex is equipped with extensive connectivity options, including RS232, RS422 and RS485. Alongside this, comprehensive functions for printing and formatting labels ensures the full traceability of working all processes.

With potentially explosive working environments providing a very real threat to users and infrastructure, manufacturers cannot afford to be complacent. The purchase of a Signum®Ex model is one guaranteed way to ensure that all operating risks are kept to a minimum. Wherever manufacturers operate, if accuracy, reliability and safety are a primary concern, then a Signum®Ex is the perfect choice.
