13 October 2014
Speaking at the Guardian Big Energy Debate, which Energy Networks Association (ENA) was partnering at the Liberal Democrat Conference, Secretary of State Ed Davey spoke about the importance of a stable investment environment and the success of network regulation in the UK.
When asked about his views on the abolition of Ofgem, he said that we should be proud of what Ofgem has achieved in the area of networks:
"We have the best network regulatory system in the world. People from around the world are coming to look at how good a job we are doing here in the UK.
"Stability and certainty are absolutely necessary and setting this out for the long term is crucial. These are factors that are inherent in the industry."
Also speaking at the event were Janine Freeman, Head of UK and EU Public Affairs for National Grid and Frank Mitchell, Chief Executive of Scottish Power Energy Networks, both of whom spoke about how the networks are looking to bring down the cost of the networks for customers while increasing investment and preparing for a low carbon energy future.
