New test lab increases capacity and facilities for dynamic motor company
4 August 2017
Motors, drives, gearboxes and generators manufactured by Lammers Exico can now be tested in-house in the new test and certification laboratory built at the company’s technology centre in the German town of Rheine.
The multi-million Euro investment gives Lammers Exico the facilities to carry out all idle and load tests using the latest equipment and to comprehensively document the results. As well as electrical tests, the new laboratory is equipped for testing mechanical aspects of the motors and other equipment.
The extensive use of computers and digital controllers means complex, extended test regimes will be easy to accomplish, ensuring both individual pieces of equipment and integrated systems can be fully tested. In addition, it can be used to test both new motors and older motors before and after refurbishment.
The laboratory has two test stations. One can be used with large motors and other equipment up to 400 kW, while the other is for synchronous servo drives and for system-optimised idle tests.
Jerry Hodek, UK Managing Director for Lammers Exico, says: “The new test laboratory is comprehensively equipped, so can be used for many different duties, including ATEX acceptance tests for various explosion protection classes. It is also set up for conducting marine acceptance tests to the standards of the many different classification authorities and approvals for many different countries.
“Compared to our old laboratory we have increased the number of tests and services greatly as well as trebling the testing capacity.”
The new test equipment is all networked to increase the efficiency of the tests, while energy efficiency and other ecological considerations were also high on the laboratory designers’ brief.
Lammers Exico is the UK operation of Lammers, a long-established German electric motor and automation company. As well as making motors and other equipment, it has a world class reputation for repairing and refurbishing large electric motors to defined performance standards.
Jerry Hodek again: “Our group’s extensive motor range is vast in terms of rated power, size and configuration. We supply both standard motor products and customised or bespoke designs, plus a wide range of inverters, gearboxes and other accessories. The new laboratory means our testing capabilities are now equally impressive.”
