Prizes for contributors to leading journal on sustainability
9 October 2018
Researchers and chemical engineers working in sustainability have been presented with awards for their contributions to Sustainable Production and Consumption, a leading journal published by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) in partnership with Elsevier.
Prizes were presented for Best Paper 2018 and to Top Reviewers, at the inaugural Sustainable Production and Consumption conference, organised in collaboration with the journal, on 4 October in Manchester, UK.
Kathrin Volkart, Christopher Mutel and Evangelos Panos, from the Laboratory for Energy Systems Analysis, Paul Scherrer Institut, Switzerland received first prize for best paper. Entitled Integrating life cycle assessment and energy system modelling: Methodology and application to the world energy scenarios, the paper demonstrates how life cycle assessment can be integrated with partial equilibrium energy system models, to develop insights on the sustainability of energy systems and estimate the impact of these systems on environment and human health.
Second prize was awarded to Jingzheng Ren, from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, for his paper Multi-criteria decision making for the prioritization of energy systems under uncertainties after life cycle sustainability assessment.
Third place went to Chunmin Lang, from Louisiana State University, US, and Cosette Joyner Armstrong from Oklahoma State University, US, for their paper Collaborative consumption: The influence of fashion leadership, need for uniqueness, and materialism on female consumers’ adoption of clothing renting and swapping.

Brent Bleys, Ghent University, Belgium
Chirjiv Anand, University of Sherbrooke, Canada
Filippos Zisopoulos, Wageningen University and Research, The Netherlands
Kim Johnson, University of Minnesota, USA
Maurizio Canavari, University of Bologna, Italy
Thomas Weber, Ecole Polytechnique Federale De Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland
Sibylle Braungardt, Fraunhofer-Institut für System- und Innovationsforschung ISI, Germany
Ximena Schmidt Rivera, The University of Manchester, UK
Professor Adisa Azapagic, Editor-in-Chief of Sustainable Production and Consumption, said:
“Sustainable production and consumption are vital for sustainable development, and research in this emerging area is becoming increasingly more important. This is also reflected in the fast-growing submissions of high-quality papers to our journal.
“Our editorial board is delighted to recognise the contribution of the top authors and reviewers to the success of the journal and we congratulate them wholeheartedly on their well-deserved awards.”
Sustainable Production and Consumption looks at the interactions between technology, consumption and policy to help identify more sustainable solutions from both production and consumption perspectives.
