Danfoss donates drives to The JCB Academy

11 October 2018

Danfoss Drives, in conjunction with one of its leading distributors - E Bennett Electrical, has recently donated six Danfoss AC variable speed drives to The JCB Academy, an exciting new school for students from the age of 13 who are interested in business and engineering. Worth thousands of pounds, the drives were also complemented with six new WEG motors to give students the opportunity to get accustomed with real industry technology.

E Bennett Electrical, a Danfoss Drives distribution partner for 30 years, has been providing JCB with Danfoss components and technical support for a long time. JCB, the construction equipment manufacturer and the sponsor of The JCB Academy was thoroughly impressed with the capabilities and longevity of Danfoss Drives products and as a result asked E Bennett Electrical if they would be able to offer their support to The JCB Academy.

“The JCB Academy educates apprentices not only for JCB but also for household names like Michelin, Alpha Manufacturing and Bri-Stor Systems”, explained Richard Kelsall, Technical Sales Manager at E Bennett Electrical. “So the academy wanted to acquaint pupils with the prestigious and widely used Danfoss products. This creates cutting edge training opportunities, which in turn benefit the whole industry and help the UK to make a new generation of highly skilled engineering workers.”

The products supplied to the academy were two VLT® HVAC Drive FC 102, two VLT® Automation Drive FC 302 and two VLT® Micro Drive FC 51. The equipment was delivered at the beginning of June and Richard Kelsall will be offering a few training sessions to accompany the lectures, as well as a presentation for the students at the beginning of the school year.

“The drives donated by Danfoss give the apprentices at The JCB Academy a unique opportunity of working on a wide variety of de-facto industry standard units, in a safe, well organised training environment”, said Bill Green, Apprenticeships manager at The JCB Academy. “Many of our apprentices have worked on similar units in the work place, but it is difficult to gain experience of drive systems when they’re on production equipment and accessibility is limited. The new Danfoss Drives facility at The JCB Academy allows the learner to take their time and learn the correct way of installation, programming and operation of the drives and motor units. It’s far better to learn through your mistakes by taking the mistake out of the work place than cost the company time and resources!”, he concluded.
