2025 Engineering Predictions Offer: Experts weigh in

“As we look to 2025, we see a renewed focus in the engineering sector on projects being delivered nearer budget and deadline estimates. Cloud and hybrid deployment are instrumental to this transformation, because they enable teams to share technical engineering data through simple collaboration. Teams will unify around a single model in the cloud, with engineers working on different parts of a design and changes being synchronised in real time. Industrial design and engineering are achieving these outcomes by gravitating further towards unified data management systems, digital twins, and advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, including generative AI.
“Across 2025 we will see five key improvements within the engineering space as businesses adopt integrated, tech-driven approaches to remain competitive. These include unified data management for the full plant lifecycle, continuous digital handovers, digital twins simulating performance from design to operation and maintenance, generative and industrial AI to automate processes, and strategic upgrades for future-ready assets.
“Each of these updates maximise industrial operations data. Tools such as unified data management accelerate project reviews through a continuous digital handover, while teams can use the digital twin to scale up performance, foresee asset maintenance needs and make better decisions. Meanwhile, generative and other types of AI are automating routine design processes and enabling data to quickly be collated and analysed.
“AI will form the basis of a new type of user experience, enabling industrial software users to quickly leverage a broad array of solutions without learning multiple systems or navigating their complex menus. On the other side, generative AI with large language models is humanising AI and lowering barriers to entry – supporting human insight and forming the foundation of Industry 5.0. Teams can build and test scenarios without physical risks and fewer wasted resources, speeding time to market while cutting costs and enhancing human safety, particularly in hazardous areas.
“Throughout 2025, teams across engineering, operations, and maintenance will need to take an integrated approach to lifecycle data to unlock efficiencies, improve asset performance and stay responsive to industry shifts.”
