£500m Scottish Investment Programme led by Viridor's new Scottish RMD

Viridor, Scotland's leading recycling, resources and renewable energy company, has announced the appointment of Mr. Paul Brown as its new Scottish Regional Managing Director effective from 1st February. Moving from a senior role at Scottish Power Energy Networks, Mr Brown will head the Scottish recycling and resources division of a company investing £500m in Scotland.

The news is a major appointment for the company, which works with 96% of Scotland's local authorities and has recently been appointed as 'preferred bidder' on the £700m Clyde Valley Residual Waste Partnership. The post of Scottish Regional Managing Director will play a key role in the development of the Scottish business, transforming Scottish Government zero waste policy into practice.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Brown said:

"This is an exciting time to be joining Viridor at the forefront of creating a more resource-efficient and sustainable UK, and I'm delighted to be leading efforts to realise Viridor's vision for Scotland. By working with the team, clients, Scottish Government, and local communities, we will do our best to ensure a greener and more circular economy for the country."

Ian McAulay, Chief Executive of Viridor, commented:

"We're delighted to welcome Paul to our team. This is a critical time for resources and renewable energy policy in Scotland, including the delivery of our Scottish infrastructure projects. Paul brings a wealth of experience from within Scotland and overseas and will make a real contribution to our business."

Mr Brown, who has degrees from both the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University, will bring over 25 years' experience in infrastructure and energy to the position, having worked in a variety of roles in the UK and the USA across a number of sectors.

Prior to joining Viridor, Mr Brown was the Network Connections Director for Scottish Power Energy Networks, responsible for securing over £200m of annual investments. In that capacity, he drove the improvement of the customer service, commercial, and regulatory performance of the 2,700-strong company which has bases in Scotland, England and Wales.

Former Regional Managing Director, Colin Paterson, will continue to provide strategic leadership and the management and development of high level relationships in Scotland.
