And the 2022 Shell Eco-marathon DuPont Safety Award goes to…

DuPont announces The TUfast Eco Team from the Technical University of Munich as recipients of the DuPont Safety Award at the Shell Eco-marathon event in the Netherlands. The competition took place at the TT Circuit, Assen, Netherlands, where teams from all over Europe and from Turkey and Egypt came together to build and drive energy efficient vehicles.

The DuPont Safety Award aims to highlight the importance of safety in the Shell Eco-marathon programme and encourages all participating Teams to actively implement safe practices in their daily activities. It challenges all Teams to review their ways of working including but not limited to training, management and inspection of tools and equipment, assessment and management of PPE requirement, and to review their procedures in order to identify areas where safety standards can be improved.

To be eligible for the award, the Team must demonstrate excellent understanding of safe design concepts and safe manufacturing processes. Furthermore, the Team must be able to demonstrate safe working practices as well as an overall proactive approach to their own and other people’s safety in their home workshop and/or at live event – in paddocks and on the track. In their submission, the Team must also explain changes they have implemented to achieve higher standards of safety.

The Spirit & Perseverance Award in the Netherlands event was a special award category where the students couldn’t apply for but selected by the award committee. The award went to Karadeniz Technical University, Turkey who received damage to their car during transit and received it with a delay. Despite these obstacles, they passed the technical inspection in impressive time and hope to achieve even better results for next year.

“I am impressed by the whole team showing true perseverance & resilience to the challenges outside of their control, while remaining positive, optimistic and also leading another team for advise and tips. Awarding this attitude; encouraging this kind of behavior meant a lot not only for the award winners but for all competing teams. It was such great acknowledgment & recognition shown by the Shell Eco-marathon organization.” - Figen Ersezer, EMEA Marketing Specialist, DuPont Personal Protection.

DuPont is sponsoring the 2022 Shell Eco-marathon global competitions by providing PPE kits and safety support to the participating teams – presenting the Shell Eco-marathon DuPont Safety Award to the teams who best incorporate safe practices into everything they do in the competitions.
