12/05/2017 Asia Oil & Gas Conference
The 19th Asia Oil & Gas Conference (AOGC 2017) has come to a close after two full days at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. AOGC 2017 drew speakers from the highest echelons of oil and gas players, government, operators, service providers, advisory, research firms and academia. On the final day, delegates heard from global energy leaders in sessions on Gas, LNG, Petrochemicals and Energy and Technology. The final day also saw the launch of a report by the Malaysian Gas Association. 'Natural Gas: Flipping the Switch' addresses the most frequently asked questions on the role of natural gas in Malaysia and southeast Asia, dispelling some common myths and underscoring the advantages of natural gas in terms of energy efficiency and costs.
For the first time, AOGC 2017 included a special programme involving 60 students from local secondary schools, aimed at promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and encouraging students to pursue careers in STEM-related industries. The Malay College Kuala Kangsar scooped first prize in the competition, Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Gombak was the first runner up and Sekolah Tun Fatimah as the second runner up.
In his summing up, Dr. Fereidun Fesharaki, AOGC 2017 Conference Chairman, felt that "cultural change has to come in the era of low oil prices", whether that be in terms of cost control, accountability or other areas. In that regard AOGC 2017 had been a conference with "serious content of serious quality, and good support from industry."
Bringing conference proceedings to a close, M Firouz Asnan, Chairman of the AOGC 2017 Organising Committee, confirmed that AOGC 2017 had attracted 4,265 participants (of which 1,477 were delegates) from 41 countries. He then went on to thank all the participants, delegates, sponsors, exhibitors and students for making AOGC an outstanding success.
