Autodesk Champions Manufacturing Excellence Scheme

Institution of Mechanical Engineers' annual Manufacturing Excellence programme, now open for entry, will promote and support the best of manufacturing in the UK

Farnborough, UK., April 04, 2011 -€” Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has today announced that it will again proudly support the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' annual Manufacturing Excellence Scheme, including the Manufacturing Excellence Awards. The initiative promotes and supports the best manufacturing in the UK and will be open to entry until 10 June 2011.

"The Manufacturing Excellence scheme is an extremely valuable initiative which provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate local manufacturing successes," said Mike Lucas, industry sales manager of Autodesk manufacturing, Northern Europe. "The Institution of Mechanical Engineers works hard to promote and support the best of UK manufacturing and Autodesk is extremely proud to support the initiative again this year."

Manufacturing Excellence works with all manufacturing businesses, whatever their size, age, sector or area of expertise, to help improve their processes and showcase excellence. Firms that are involved can receive a visit from a team of expert assessors, including Autodesk industry representatives, who will verify the audit responses and offer practical advice and suggestions for the business, including a detailed benchmarking report.

Six Steps to Manufacturing Excellence

The roadmap of the Manufacturing Excellence process runs as follows:
1.   Self-Assessment Audit
Firms must complete one or more modules of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers' eight-section business improvement audit by 10 June.
2.   Assessment Boards & Benchmark report
The completed audit will be evaluated and scored to form the basis of a free benchmark report, compiled by industry experts, that identifies the company's strengths and weaknesses and can be used to improve the business in future
3.   Assessor Visits
The highest-scoring companies in each module will be visited by a team of skilled assessors to undertake a further appraisal of the business in the context of the answers given on the self-assessment audit, including practical advice and suggestions for the business
4.   Final Presentation
On 3 and 4 November, shortlisted companies will be invited to present to a judging panel at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in London
5.   Awards Ceremony
Category and overall winners will be announced at a prestigious ceremony in London on 23 November. Winning companies will each receive a stylish trophy created in Autodesk Inventor 3D mechanical design software, a tool used by manufacturers for Digital Prototyping.
6.   Knowledge Sharing Network
Throughout the year, manufacturing firms involved in the scheme will have the opportunity to take part in Manufacturing Excellence (MX) events, including company tours hosted by previous award winners. Firms that attend will hear first-hand about how Manufacturing Excellence can help their business as well as get the opportunity to share the latest ideas and best-practice methods.
