A group of volunteers from European Automation, a supplier of obsolete industrial components, has volunteered to help out at Stafford homeless charity House of Bread once a month. The company made the move at the end of October to help the local community support vulnerable people during winter and beyond.House of Bread was founded by Matt Turner in 2010 and is shaped and supported by Stafford's churches. The organisation, based in Trinity Church in the centre of Stafford, represents a safe environment for some of its most at-risk visitors.
Volunteers at House of Bread help provide homeless people with hot meals, clothing, blankets, toiletries, support and advice. The charity provides a free home cooked meal every Wednesday between 6 - 8.30pm.
The team from European Automation first visited the Trinity Church on Wednesday, October 30 to lend a hand at the weekly hot meal workshop. Diana Tsung, who is part of European Automation's corporate social responsibility team helped organise the visit to the church's food and support network.
"We felt that our first visit to House of Bread was a really important moment," commented Tsung. "Our team were involved in the clothing bank, helping sort out the donated items most suitable for the forthcoming cold weather. It was a really rewarding experience that has helped us develop; not just in our personal lives but also our professional ones as well."
Mark Proctor, managing director of European Automation is also member of the corporate social responsibility team. He was so pleased with the outcome that he has made European Automation's charity work at House of Bread a key part of its ongoing commitment to the community.
"As a customer service focussed company we aim to deliver in the best way possible for our clients and partners. This means that the people skills that volunteering at House of Bread provides are profoundly important," concluded Tsung.
"It's a really positive thing when a company steps in to help our visitors," commented Matt Turner, coordinating manager of House of Bread. "Diana, Jon, Maria, Andrew and Darren from European Automation worked really hard and integrated brilliantly with the rest of the team," he finished.
If you'd like to join the organisation in its work, you can volunteer by completing an application form on the House of Bread website (www.hobstafford.co.uk) and posting it to House of Bread, 52 Stone Road, Stafford, ST16 2RL. Alternatively you can e-mail it to will@hobstafford.co.uk
The house of bread also needs donations of clothes and blankets as well as food and toiletries. These can be left in drop bins in Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's. Financial donations can be made directly on the House of Bread web site.
