Bandwidth-hungry applications demand higher speed networks - Electro Rent Europe have the answer!
26/09/2012 Electro Rent Europe NV
100 Gigabit Ethernet presents fundamental challenges to network operators and equipment manufacturersThe emergence of 100 Gbps communications is a direct result of the explosion in high bandwidth services such as Video-on-Demand and mobile connectivity. Today network service providers must deliver high speed communications to their residential, mobile and enterprise customers in a timely and cost-effective manner. To the network operators and equipment manufacturers the move to every increasing speed creates major challenges in the development and deployment of the next generation networks. Companies with these problems in similar industries have developed a proven method of acquiring the tools they need to do their job and lower their risk of failure: rent and other flexible financing options.
Ethernet Evolution
The transition from GigE to 10 GigE brought Ethernet technology to the transport network. The shift to 40Gbps required significant modifications to the optically transmitted signal and its path. Now the move to 100Gbps is re-writing the rules with fundamental changes necessary to the way data is transmitted through the optical network. Multi-channel, multi-lane transmissions using multiple wavelengths with complex modulation procedures have been specified for the new standard.
These present significant testing challenges that are compounded by the ongoing evolution of the 100 GigE standards resulting in continuing changes to the test specifications. In this environment companies require access to the very latest generation of test equipment that can measure the physical and transmission characteristics of 100 Gbps Ethernet and the optical transport network.
100 GigE testing
Electro Rent Europe provides test equipment from two of the leading suppliers to this market. Each offers solution for the latest communications standards including 100 GigE. From JDSU, ER can supply the MTS-8000-100G-40G scalable test platform and the ONT-506-100G-40G test mainframe. From EXFO, ER can supply the FTB-500-81500G portable test platform.
The JDSU T-BERD / MTS 8000
"JDSU offers the only field optimized testing platform that delivers Ethernet and OTN service activation, troubleshooting and maintenance capabilities from 10M to 100G in a single unit," said Dr. Lars Friedrich, vice president and general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "We have taken all the experience gained from our close engagement with all major NEM and Service Provider labs to design this solution meeting the needs. With the explosive demand for high-bandwidth services, providers are increasingly moving to high-speed Ethernet to support growing network traffic."
The EXFO FTB-500-81500G
"Over the past few years, EXFO has been a leading provider of next-generation testing solutions - addressing converged networks testing needs including OTN transport layer and mapped packet based services" said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's Vice-President of EXFO's Test and Measurement Division and Corporate Marketing. "Now more than ever, we are determined to maintain our leadership and align our testing solutions to meet 40G/100G technology advances, market requirements and customers' needs."
David Saeys, General Manager (id.) for Electro Rent Europe commented, "100 GigE is a step change in the communications market that is presenting unique testing challenges to our customers. By offering the largest inventory of this equipment from two of the leading suppliers in this area we are meeting our customers' needs for advanced test equipment now. With the evolution of the 100 GigE standards our customers test requirements will change. By working with JDSU and EXFO we are confident that we will continue to have the latest equipment available. By offering rental and leasing services for these products we can give our customers access to the testing solutions they need today while ensuring that we can continue to meet their requirements for the future."
