BOFA Supports Next Generation of Engineers

Engineering students and apprentices at Weymouth College are set to benefit from world-class fume extraction technology donated by BOFA International as part of the company's 30th anniversary celebrations. The filtration systems - three twin-arm solder fume extraction units - are being given to the college by the Poole-based company, which recently won a Queen's Award for Innovation, for use in a new mechatronics facility.
The portable units will ensure the removal of any harmful airborne fumes associated with PCB manufacture, enabling the students to undertake soldering projects in complete safety.
"As a UK manufacturer, we're very proud of our heritage and committed to nurturing future talent for industry, as demonstrated by our own apprenticeship programme," said Tony Lockwood, Managing Director.
"So we are delighted to mark our 30th year of operation by supporting Weymouth College and the next generation of local engineers through the donation of fume extraction equipment designed and made in Dorset."
Weymouth engineering lecturer, Chris Bonney, commented: "Our mechatronics module will equip students and apprentices with specialist multi-disciplinary competences in considerable demand in industry. The donation from BOFA is particularly pleasing, given the company's world leadership in this field."
The BOFA V250 twin arm solder units incorporate High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters that remove 99.997% of airborne contaminants.
The presentation coincided with 'Breathe Easy Week' run by the British Lung Foundation, BOFA's supported charity.
