British Company Wins GE Product Technology Innovation Award

Groby, Leicestershire 18 September 2012. TERPS (Trench Etched Resonant Pressure Sensor) technology, developed by a team based at GE's Pressure Centre of Excellence in Groby, Leicester, has been awarded the GE Measurement & Control Product Technology Innovation Award. This prestigious award recognizes innovations that advance the state-of-the-art of GE products and have a positive effect on competitiveness and reputation.

"This achievement is the result of many years of focused development from a cross-functional team, which has included our global supply chain and sourcing, in-house research and development, and our quality, production and test and measurement departments. " says Gordon Docherty, Technology Leader at Groby.

TERPS incorporates several key innovations in the design and manufacture of resonating silicon pressure sensors, which offer extremely high accuracy and stability over wide pressure and temperature ranges. The design and packaging of TERPS sensors fits them for application in harsh environments, from sub-sea to aerospace. For example, TERPS sensors are being used to control the fuel flow on a gas turbine which will supply power to the 2014 Winter Olympics Village in Russia.
