~ Electrical engineering firm appoints dedicated ERP manager ~Power resistor manufacturer Cressall Resistors has appointed Malcolm Garbett (pictured) as its enterprise resource planning (ERP) and business systems manager. Garbett, who has an extensive background in business analysis and IT, is now solely responsible for the business systems management at the Leicester based manufacturer.
Prior to joining Cressall, Garbett gained a valuable 15 years' experience working in IT and systems management, primarily in the manufacturing sector. During this time, he built an impressive portfolio of qualifications and certifications including becoming a Prince2 practitioner and achieving Microsoft Professional certification.
At Cressall, Garbett's role is to identify potential improvements to the current system and to take action to better align the system to meet the needs of the business. Garbett will manage the improvements as they are implemented, ensuring that the projects run smoothly from start to finish.
While Garbett has taken sole ownership of ERP management for Cressall, the company's diverse range of projects means he works with numerous departments within the company including accounts, purchasing and manufacturing production.
"One of my first projects at Cressall was to improve access to costing data for the accounts department," explained Garbett. "Beforehand, the vast amount of complex data meant gaining access to it was slow and laborious. Improvements to the system have made data access easier, faster and more accurate. In fact, the time taken to produce the monthly costing data has been reduced by six working days."
"Malcolm's experience as a hands-on business systems expert has certainly helped to smooth out a number of hiccups in Cressall's systems," explained Martin Nicholls, sales director of Cressall Resistors. "Malcolm has delivered real solutions for materials resource planning, time and attendance and now, he is managing a redesign of our stock control processes to improve its effectiveness."
With more than 100 years of experience designing and manufacturing power resistors, East Midlands based Cressall produces high power resistors designed for use in the power generation, marine and offshore, traction, renewables, drives and controls and telecoms industries.
