Chemical testing facility reduces energy consumption by 50% with close control units
16/06/2015 ICS Cool Energy Ltd
Temperature control specialist, ICS Cool Energy recently supplied an energy efficient solution to a global chemical specialist with over 150 years' industry experience. The project will improve the performance of technologies, processes and products at its newly developed chemical testing facility.Accurate temperature and humidity are critical at chemical testing sites to ensure the reliability of products, and that procedures adhere to British Industry standards.
Richard Metcalfe, Sales Director at ICS Cool Energy explains: "Our customer specialises in providing manufactured chemical solutions with the aim of improving quality of life and customer performance for industries such as energy and environment, automotive, electronics, building and construction. Sustainable development plays a central role in the global success of the company."
ICS Cool Energy installed a 7.5kW DX close control Ipsum unit to regulate the conditions in a new test chamber. The chamber is being used as an enclosed storage space to house and prepare fabrics and non-combustible materials prior to being tested to fabric standards. In addition, a bespoke temperature and humidity remote monitoring device was required to prove conditions are met.
Metcalfe continues, "The Ipsum unit accurately controls the temperature and humidity in the new chemical testing facility, maintaining a constant temperature of 19°C. The testing process of the fabrics involves the cloth garments having a coating applied and then washed under controlled conditions, dried, pressed and tested for flammability.
"It is a versatile close control air conditioning product that offers a high standard of cooling. Complete with additional electric heating, humidification and de-humidification functions, these units can manage precise temperatures whilst dealing with high fluctuations in various thermal load conditions."
The inverter compressors on the Ipsum unit have the ability to reduce the chemical manufacturer's energy consumption by as much as 50% when operating at partial loads. The EC fans come as standard through the collection, providing high efficiency and significant cost savings compared to traditional air conditioning technology.
"Our engineers provided a remote monitoring device which gives the customer a dedicated online portal with 24/7 access to examine the operating conditions of the unit, and a full turnkey service."
