Electric drive solution for efficient unloading of bulk goods
CVS engineering GmbH, based in Rheinfelden, develops and manufactures oil-free compressors for installation in commercial vehicles. With the new SKL eMotion-Pack, CVS has now collaborated with fleet operators to create a powerful, zero-emission compressor unit for electric trucks. The mobile unit is designed for unloading bulk goods such as construction materials, food, chemicals, and plastics – without the need for stationary power connections or compressed air units. The unit draws power from the electric truck’s battery, so no engine needs to be running during unloading.
Greater kingpin load, greater swing-through clearance
The compact design makes the SKL eMotion-Pack ideal for electric vehicles – not least because it maximizes the kingpin load and space utilization. It also takes up less space behind the cab. This allows the fifth-wheel coupling to be positioned flexibly to distribute the drawbar load optimally across the axles. “At the same time, there is sufficient swing-through space for the trailer, so that semi-trailers with standard EURO dimensions can also be used, depending on the type of truck,” adds Andrea Dente, the responsible Product and Sales Manager.
Low noise level?
Additional benefits include quiet operation: Compared to diesel engines, the noise level during unloading is significantly lower. Another plus for users: The direct drive system requires neither hydraulic oil nor mechanical shafts, which simplifies maintenance and reduces operating costs. The cooling system for the SKL eMotion Pack from CVS consists of an efficient oil cooler for the operating oil and a compressed air aftercooler, particularly for temperature-sensitive goods. In addition, an intake filter with an integrated maintenance indicator ensures good air quality. Any potential overloads are prevented by a special safety valve and a pressure silencer with an integrated check valve.

“The other system features are also impressively user-friendly,” adds Andrea Dente: “For example, power is transmitted via a flexible coupling between the ePTO motor and the screw compressor.” The ePTO (electric Power Take-Off) is a complete unit featuring a liquid-cooled, speed-regulated electric motor and control system. All values, such as temperature or torque, can be read at any time as needed.
Easy installation on vehicles
Installing the SKL eMotion Pack on vehicles is straightforward and is done directly on the chassis using specially adapted mounts. In addition, two compressed air outlets ensure easy and flexible unloading. All in all, the SKL eMotion Pack is well-suited for the growing market of mobile unloading of electric silo trucks whose mechanically driven compressor units are not compatible with electric trucks. Following the market launch of the SKL eMotion Pack, CVS engineering plans further model and functional enhancements to be able to offer the system for all truck brands.
