DIPERK ENGINEERS A STAGE V SOLUTION FOR PROLECTRIC
23/06/2023 DiPerk Power Solutions
DiPerk Power Solutions, sole distributor of Perkins engines in the UK and Ireland, has engineered a Stage V engine solution for solar energy expert, Prolectric, for a fleet of portable generators at some of the UK’s leading infrastructure projects including HS2 and Hinkley Point.
Prolectric is the UK’s leading manufacturer of solar lighting towers providing equipment for supply to plant hire and rental firms. The company has recently expanded its fleet of equipment to include solar powered hybrid generators and subsequently secured a large order from a national hire company to provide 200 of these for use on major construction projects, including HS2, which require engines used to comply with the latest Stage V emissions regulations.
Stage V is the current European-level emissions legislation that applies directly to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) providing mobile machinery. The new standards came into force back in January 2019 for engines below 56kW and above 129kW, and then in January 2020 for those within the 56 – 129kW range. They stipulate that additional ‘clean’ controls must be installed on equipment, such as diesel particulate filters, to reduce emissions and limit carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons.
DiPerk’s technical team worked closely with the team at Prolectric to come up with a practical, timely and cost-effective solution to provide them with fully compliant 20kVA Stage V engines. The team concluded that the most effective solution was to provide a standard Perkins 20kVA engine that it was suitable for installation into the fleet of portable gen-sets.
“We’re seeing increased demand from OEMs and end users operating equipment in landmark construction sites like HS2, to upgrade and replace engines so they meet with the latest Stage V legislation,” explains Wayne Vincent, Head of Distribution Sales at DiPerk.
“Our engineers have extensive experience in working with Perkins engines and were able to provide a solution that enabled the engines to be both compliant with the regulations and compatible with the machinery.
“Additionally, we were able to arrange a phased delivery programme which saw the first 35 engines (out of a total of 200) being delivered by March of this year.”
DiPerk was involved throughout the scheme, developing the concept through to completing the full appraisal & installation process to confirm the application worked effectively. More than half of the engines have now been delivered, with the remainder due by the end of September.
Managing Director of Prolectric MD, Rachel Preen, said: “Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do here at Prolectric so ensuring our products are powered with the latest low emission grade engines is a priority.
“We have been impressed with the level of expertise and input from the technical team at DiPerk who provided a solution which was managed and delivered in a comprehensive and professional way. We are also impressed by the performance and quality of the Perkins engines and will be looking to continue to work with DiPerk to provide additional power solutions for our wider fleet of solar powered equipment.”
