Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies (VWS), the leading specialist for water and wastewater treatment, has received three repeat orders for its highly successful Hydrotech® Discfilter tertiary treatment filters. The new filters, which bring the total number of UK installations up to fifty, are for Scottish Water at Campbeltown, Thames Water at Chievely and United Utilities at Hawkshead.The two units being supplied to Campbeltown are serial; numbers 7000 and 7001 which represent the 7000th units fabricated at VWS Sister Company Hydrotech in Sweden. The HSF 2200 series Discfilters delivered to Campbeltown will treat flows up to 50l/s, whilst the smaller HSF 1700 Series units at Chieveley and Hawkshead will treat flows of 40l/s and 20l/s respectively.
The technology was developed in Sweden where the first full scale plant was installed in 1995. Since its introduction to the UK in 2003, the packaged VWS Hydrotech® Discfilter has become the first choice for tertiary filtration for an increasing number of water companies. It's self-cleaning 10 micron rotating discs give excellent removal of suspended solids including biomass flocs and precipitated phosphates for compliance with tightening suspended solids consent levels.
The Hydrotech® Discfilter is a compact unit with a maximum headloss of only 250mm which make it particularly suitable for retrofitting at works where space and head are limited. The units are fully enclosed and odour-free, environmental impact is low. The backwash water generated is typically 2% of peak throughput.
