Ex cable glands offer maximum security and faster, easier installation

When it comes to introducing cables into explosion-protected metal housings, electrical apparatus or enclosures, Ex cable glands are required. In order to maintain the appropriate protection rating, it is essential that these cables are sealed correctly as they enter electrical equipment located in hazardous gas or dust environments.Through its COOPER Capri division, COOPER Crouse-Hinds has launched a new series of explosion-protected Ex-metal cable glands for hazardous gas and dust applications.
The new ADE 6F series of cable glands is an innovative range of armoured, nickel-plated brass cable glands available in barrier gland, compound versions (6FC) and liquid compound version (6FCL) for easier, faster installation and maintenance.
This new series boasts several patented design features. First, unlike most conventional metal cable glands that use an outer cover, the ADE 6F has an integrated deluge seal, which provides increased stability in high vibration environments. In addition, the ADE 6F uses a patented diaphragm and sealing system that prevents damage occurring to the inner sheath of the cable. The ADE 6F also incorporates a novel, unique armoured clamping cage. This intuitive device uses an armoured stop to ensure that assembly can only be carried out in one direction, resulting in easier, faster installation, as well as simplifying inspection, servicing and maintenance.
COOPER Capri's ADE series is manufactured in nickel-plated brass as standard, providing the cable glands with maximum corrosion protection in harsh and hazardous environments, including aggressive chemicals. The ADE series is available in other base materials such as 316L stainless steel, aluminium and bronze. The ADE series comprises three optimised ranges: 1F, 4F and 6F, for both armoured and unarmoured cable applications.
ADE 1F is the unarmoured range, with inner sealing. The ADE 1F is available with a patented clamping module, which ensures maximum security and integrity in terms of cable clamping forces.
The ADE 4F is the next step up in terms of explosion protection. This armoured series of cable glands offers increased explosion protection by providing outer sealing, armoured cable retention and earthing/ground protection.
The ADE series is Ex-certified for use in hazardous environments for international and country-specific specifications: ABS approbation, ATEX, DNV, NEMA (4X and IP68 with sealing washer), BKI (Hungary), CEPEL (Brazil), FTZU (Czech Republic), GOST (Russia and Kazakhstan), NEPSI (China), SKTC (Slovakia) and UL (USA).
The ADE range of cable glands also offers easier handling and reduced transportation costs to end users. The optimised weight savings are particularly beneficial in offshore environments.
COOPER Capri's metal cable gland range covers the whole spectrum of armoured and unarmoured cabling. For explosion-protected equipment, it is critical to maintain the integrity of the degree of ingress protection at which the equipment has been rated. The cable glands can therefore be used with many types of accessories, including sealing washers, serrated washers, gaskets, screw plugs, lock nuts, clamping modules and earthing tags. Thread conversion adapters and reducers are also available that convert the cable gland to a different thread type or enlarge or reduce the threaded connection between the equipment entry hole and the cable entry device.
