Fluor achieves chemical engineering gold standard

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has presented Fluor Limited with Gold Corporate Partnership in recognition of its world-class skills and professional development programmes.

Fluor Limited, the UK operating arm of Fluor Corporation, was presented with Gold Corporate Partnership by IChemE president and professor of energy engineering at Imperial College London, Geoff Maitland, on 12 September 2014.

Fluor is only the eighth organisation in the world to meet the rigorous gold standard, which provides an independent assessment of an organisation's professional standards, high-level training programmes, CPD and other initiatives including promoting the chemical engineering profession in schools, universities, communities and beyond.

Fluor provides engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance and project management services and delivers over 1,000 projects annually to more than 600 clients in 66 countries. In the UK, Fluor has been operating for over 50 years serving customers across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Professor Maitland said: "Fluor sets very high standards for the professional development of its engineers and this is reflected in the chemical engineering team where almost 60 per cent of degree-qualified chemical engineers are Chartered and over a third have achieved Fellow status.

"This success is underpinned by Fluor's early career development programme - called Graduates Advancing to Professionalism' (GAP) SM - which is accredited by IChemE.

"Their work to promote the chemical engineering profession in schools and universities is equally impressive. Delivering guest lectures at universities, providing internships for graduates, sponsorship of students at University and support for IChemE's successful whynotchemeng campaign all form part of their extensive commitment to chemical engineering.

"It is IChemE's privilege to present Fluor Limited with Gold Corporate Partnership and publicly recognise their outstanding commitment to the chemical engineering profession."

Accepting the award on behalf of Fluor Limited, Ashley Rees, general manager and vice president, added: "We are extremely proud to receive this prestigious award which recognises Fluor's long standing commitment to establish an engineering legacy in the UK and all other countries where we work.

"We are particularly pleased to partner with IChemE, another worldwide organisation, to look for ways to promote chemical engineering as a career for future generations."
