Free Cooling Technology helps Worldwide Transmission Company to save 85% on its energy bill

A world-leader in motor supplies, including high performance transmissions and driveline components, has recently expanded its business to increase sales production, and support establishments such as Formula One, Moto GP, and Sportscar. Despite the expansion, it aimed to save around 85% on its energy bill.To keep in line with this high energy-saving target, and ensure that production does not falter, the company has worked with temperature control specialist, ICS Cool Energy, to employ Free Cooling technology at its production site.
Richard Metcalfe, Sales Director at ICS Cool Energy, explains: "The company originally had a chiller which was using the ozone-depleting R22 refrigerant which is to be phased out at the end of 2014. As part of the expansion project, two new furnaces have been installed on site, and our team has installed Free Cooling technology to effectively cool the furnace in order to maintain control of the process.
ICS Cool Energy installed a Free Cooling system consisting of two iC-412 i-Chillers and two Free Cooling coils to work alongside the furnace cooling process. It serves as a highly efficient and economic method of utilising the ambient air temperatures to assist in chilling the water used in the processes.
Metcalfe continues, "The Free Cooling process enables the site to cool down the furnace process with 25°C water in order to crash-cool the components. The intelligence of the system means that the units can provide either partial or 100% Free Cooling when the ambient air is 5°C below the required temperature.
"The technology works best during the colder months, as it ensures massive energy and cost savings without having to compromise the process capacity. It also lowers the carbon footprint, and saves the company approximately £5,000 per annum, that's 85% in annual energy savings and a system payback of only two years."
