GE Launches Inspection Academy

Expert Training In NDT Techniques and Technologies Available for Customers and Employees

The Inspection Technologies business of GE Measurement & Control has launched the GE Inspection Academy to allow its customers and employees access to the latest non-destructive technologies and to provide training in the application of a wide range of NDT modalities. Initially, classroom training will be concentrated in key locations such as the newly created Academy building in Lewistown but classroom and workshop facilities will be set up around the globe in existing GE Application Centers, and in selected partner and academic institutions. On-line training resources are available immediately, with optional hands-on training provided in designated locations soon to follow

As Jeff Anderson, Technology Leader of the Inspection Technologies business, explains, "As one of the world's leading innovators in the development of NDT products and solutions, we are very much aware that the technologies associated with the different NDT modalities are constantly evolving. One of the prime aims in setting up this new Academy is to help our customers, and our employees, to gain a better understanding of these new technologies At the same time we will provide training in the application of these leading edge techniques, often using the engineering teams and application experts who have been largely responsible for the development of the relevant products and equipment. In this way, we hope to help our customers to make more efficient and productive use of the latest NDT solutions."

The GE Inspection Academy will offer courses in all the major NDT modalities, including ultrasonics, radiography, eddy current, magnetic particle, dye penetrant and remote visual inspection. Initial focus will be Level I and Level II certification to accepted accreditations. However, syllabuses introducing advanced technologies such as phased array and Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD), as well as specific GE products, such as the Rhythm software platform, will be introduced in the near future. As Kevin McClain, Global NDT manager at GE, concludes, "The GE Inspection Academy represents a logical step in extending the GE expertise, embodied in the leading edge products we offer to the market, into structured and relevant training for those products and technologies."
