GEA Cooling Club Webinar Promotes the Use of Heat Pumps to Decarbonise District Heating Systems and Reduce Energy Costs

From 3:00pm to 4:00pm on 1 October 2020 GEA will be hosting a webinar ‘Decarbonising district heating with heat pump technology’ to explore the benefits of using heat pumps in district heating systems. The expert speakers will look at economic and environmental benefits; consider the relative merits of a range of low-temperature heat sources such as industrial plants, transport systems, water courses and ambient air; describe the temperatures achievable; and refer to relevant case studies i.e. GEA projects in Malmo, Sweden and London, UK.

The speakers will be Svend Vinther Pedersen, Senior Consultant, Refrigeration and Heat Pumps, The Danish Technological Institute (Teknologisk Institut) and Kenneth Hoffmann, Product Manager Heat Pumps, at GEA Refrigeration Technologies.

Domestic heating is a major contributor to CO2 emissions. As the EU continues its aim to be carbon neutral by 2050, and the demand for cheap, sustainable energy increases, so the role of heat pumps is becoming clear.  Many countries have already adopted the technology and, as electricity is increasingly obtained from renewable sources, the logic of the technology becomes ever more compelling.

This webinar from GEA will clarify the economic and environmental viability of using heat pump technology with natural, low-charge ammonia as the heat transfer medium, and make clear the role it will make as the cornerstone of domestic heating systems, helping to facilitate the integration of renewable power into electricity grids and minimise losses.
