igus cables tested to last - igus cables meet stringent requirements of today's machinery

Requirements for the safe and reliable supply of moving power and data in today's sophisticated machines are becoming more and more stringent. To meet such demands, igus ensures that all of its continuous-flex cable solutions undergo extensive and rigorous testing performed by its state-of-the-art laboratories in Cologne, Germany.

In dynamic applications, where cables connect a machine's moving parts, cables are subject to a range of movements often involving linear or twisting motions. The simple copper core technology, which is used in standard cables, is unsuitable for such dynamic applications; the copper strands could eventually break, due to the repeated bending at a small bend radius. In addition, when it comes to multi-core constructions, cables can corkscrew and untwist under the outer jacket. This can result in increased machine downtime and decreased productivity.

To avoid such common technical problems, all igus cables are tested in challenging real-life cable environments, involving chemical and environmental resistance as well as bespoke customer specific tests. Not only does the igus' test laboratory perform more than 600 parallel running tests at any one time, it also runs more than two billion test cycles per year.
