IMI delivers £15m orders for hydrogen value chain in 2023

IMI has announced a record year for orders throughout the hydrogen value chain in 2023.

Last year saw the manufacturer double its 2022 orders to deliver £15m worth of projects to support the generation of hydrogen.

Key milestones included a successful field test of the company’s IMI VIVO polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyser at its 16,000m2 facility in Sardinia in May 2023.

Available in 100kW to 5MW power class skids, the IMI VIVO electrolyser can be made fully bespoke to end-user requirements thanks to a ‘turnkey’ configuration that includes a high or low-pressure storage tank, compressor and optional fuelling equipment.

The field test was quickly followed by several electrolyser installations at leading global research organisations throughout the summer and autumn of 2023. These included the IAAPS research facility at the University of Bath and the University of Sheffield’s Sustainable Aviation Fuels Innovation Centre, with the latter successfully producing its first on-site green hydrogen in January 2024.

Hydrogen solutions will remain a core focus for the company throughout 2024 and beyond, as it looks to expand its hydrogen sector team and the number of electrolyser installations across the world.

Jackie Hu, CEO of Automation at IMI, commented: “2023 was a seminal year for IMI’s green hydrogen ambitions. Completing a successful field test for the IMI VIVO electrolyser was truly a landmark moment for the company, along with our first customer installations at prestigious research institutions.

“Reinforcing our commitment to deliver breakthrough engineering for a better world, the past year has been a positive first step in the activation of our solutions within the green hydrogen value chain. We plan to build on this strong start throughout 2024 and beyond as we continue to help our customers navigate the energy transition to become sustainable and more productive.”
