Innovative endoscope from Ultrafine combines camera and light source in a pencil grip handle

A new desktop endoscope from Ultrafine Technology has its high resolution video camera and powerful LED light source incorporated in a pencil grip handle. This reduces the bulk and inconvenience of having separate units and makes the probe easier to manipulate.

Another major advantage of the Ultraview FSC-2 is that it accepts interchangeable probes, which simply snap onto the handle. This allows probes to be quickly changed to suit different applications.

As well as being more convenient, the pencil grip handle provides greater control, which can have the effect of reducing probe breakages by up to 50 per cent.

"The Ultraview FSC-2 has a much lower cost of ownership compared with conventional endoscopes," said Ultrafine's general manager, Vicky Wright. "This is due to the reduction in probe breakages as well as savings on replacement bulbs and maintenance."

A wide range of snap fit probes is available, including flexible, semi-flexible and rigid versions. These have various directions and fields of view, with standard lengths up to 170 mm and diameters from 0.7 mm to 4.0 mm. Longer probes can be supplied on request.

Locating the light source in the FSC-2's handle also has the benefit of producing greater light intensity since the shorter light guide reduces attenuation.

The camera is connected to its compact control unit by a 2.3 m cable. The unit has one S-video and two BNC video outputs as well as a USB port for connection to a PC, for which image management software is provided. A footswitch is also supplied to assist with image capture.
