Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Oman Society for Petroleum Services join forces to promote engineering skills

The Oman Society for Petroleum Services (OPAL) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers have signed an agreement to develop vital engineering skills for Oman's booming oil and gas industry.The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Majid Al Toky, Chairman of OPAL and Stephen Tetlow, Chief Executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers at a special ceremony on Sunday 14 November.
Stephen Tetlow, Chief Executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said:
"This agreement with OPAL will help us boost the number of Omani engineers gaining professional registration. Working together we can provide Omani engineers and technicians with an internationally recognised benchmark of engineering training and continuous professional development from cradle to grave.
"I'm looking forward to working with OPAL to develop engineering skills, which are so critical to the growth and progress of Oman's economy."
Musallam Al Mandhry, Chief Executive Officer of OPAL, said:
"This MoU with a prime UK institution like the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, provides OPAL further impetus towards our goal of promoting competent technical professionals who are able to compete with their counterparts globally. It gives us great pride to continue to be the enabler in such a noble venture for Oman under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said"
