INTERTRONICS BENCH-TOP ROBOT - ACCURATE, LOW COST ADHESIVE APPLICATION 24/7
18/01/2011 Intertronics
The UK's manufacturing industry has regained its confidence through 2010 and once again is rising to the challenge of export-led growth in this highly innovative sector. The purchasing managers' index reached a 16 year high in December and we have seen strong growth during 2010 in both output and job creation. In this environment even small companies are finding that automation is the key to sustainable growth and that small industrial robots are not only relatively cheap but can also offer ROI in weeks. The new 3 axis Fisnar F4200N from Intertronics is such a machine - now available for less than £4000 it is expected to interest engineers in all industries especially for adhesive dispensing/application tasks in environments from research labs to electronic production lines and component assembly e.g. for form-in-place gaskets, adhesives, coatings, potting, filling and shielding.
The F4200N features plug and play installation in a very compact footprint, with robust, heavy duty cast construction providing stability when working to fine tolerances so making it suited to the shop floor or development lab and small enough to insert into an existing production line as a process enhancing retro-fit. Its low cost and high performance bring accuracy and reliability within reach of SMEs seeking to improve competitiveness - upgrading quality while reducing unit costs - bringing a wealth of tasks within range. From PCBs and component location to structural adhesives and 3-dimensional gasket application the F4200N makes possible processes and costs that cannot be achieved manually. For example in medical, laboratory, pharmaceutical, electronics, optics, engineering and manufacturing where small batch runs and/or 24/7 operation can be readily incorporated into the work cycle.
Fast, accurate and reliable functionality 24 hours a day includes continuous path and point-to-point motions, dots, lines, arcs and circles with automatic offset calculation, quick fluid-purge button located on front panel, a software tip alignment routine for quick program offsets when changing dispensing tips, while step-and-repeat functions program one object only for multiple identical objects. Step-by-step intuitive instructions simplify job creation tasks, allowing a program to be entered and running in minutes using a simple teach pendant.
Specification of the F4200N is comprehensive enabling it to handle a dispensing area of 200mm x 200mm x 50mm with a capability to store up to 100 different programs with up to 4000 points per program at a resolution of 0.001mm. A 16-channel I/O interface provides for communication with external devices for secondary applications and multiple dispensing equipment components, and a USB connector allows systems updates and program interchange between robots. An optional Windows software package with a DXF file converter is available for programming from a computer.
The robot is a sophisticated three-axis design capable of interfacing with any Intertronics dispensing equipment and can use simple dispensing barrels, controlled by a pneumatic dispenser, or a dispensing valve, fed from some form of reservoir. This enables Intertronics to provide a full turnkey solution. The F4200N is the smallest of a complete range of dispensing robots.
