JOHN CRANE DISPLAYS IMPRESSIVE OFFSHORE CREDENTIALS AT ONS 2012

John Crane used the 2012 ONS exhibition as a platform to announce a major new frame agreement it has signed with one of the world's leading exploration and production companies. John Crane Norway has signed the agreement with Statoil Petroleum AS, and will now supply seals, couplings, spares and service technician support, plus training and engineering services for Statoil's rotating equipment. John Crane Norway has maintained an excellent relationship with Statoil for many years and was chosen for this contract on the basis of the extensive base of installed products which the company has to its credit. This agreement highlights John Crane's objective of becoming the automatic provider of choice for offshore operators such as Statoil, and also underlines the company's expertise in helping customers keep their facilities running round-the-clock.High performance sealing
John Crane's range of high performance offshore and pipeline solutions were represented at the exhibition by the Type 8600 high-duty seals. Built on John Crane's extensive experience in high-duty applications, these seals incorporate the latest technology and material developments. This makes the Type 8600 family the most advanced range of high-duty seals available today, with the ability to operate at speeds in excess of 50m/s and pressures over 200bar.
High performance support
Type 8600 seals are also available as part of the John Crane integrated seal and support system packages which were detailed on the stand. Designed for such duties as produced water re-injection, these systems are already in use on offshore applications, and include a self-cleaning sea water filter skid which provides a pressure-controlled supply of clean water for seal cooling duties. Water flowing from the system is constantly monitored to ensure maximum operating efficiency, and John Crane's own Indufil specialist filtration technology is included to provide reliable filtration, even during maintenance cycles.
Upstream Pumping
Another element which can be included as part of the seal and support system packages is John Crane's Upstream Pumping technology - another product of the company's widespread oil and gas industry experience. This uses state-of-the-art gas seal principles to deliver wet seals with a life expectancy more typical of a gas seal, and is intended for use on demanding offshore duties where aggressive, high solids-content fluids must be handled. It represents a highly effective 'fit-and-forget' alternative to the traditional double seal arrangement and combines greatly extended life expectancy with outstanding reliability, plus significantly reduced maintenance requirements and costs.
Specialist supplier
Other John Crane sealing solutions on display at ONS reflected the company's position as a recognized specialist supplier to the offshore industries. Prominent among these was the Type 28EXP non-contacting, dry-running gas seal for high pressure applications. Having been established as the industry standard for gas-handling turbomachinery applications since the early 1980s, John Crane's Type 28 seals have been thoroughly proven in use on countless gas collection, transmission, refining and petrochemical processing duties around the world. They are designed to eliminate seal oil contamination while reducing downtime and maintenance costs, and are offered in various configurations to suit a variety of pressure handling requirements.
Transferring power

Visitors were also able to find out more about the comprehensive customer service and support capabilities which form another key element of John Crane's offering. These include a 24/7 emergency response service which is provided from dedicated North Sea facilities in Stavanger, Oslo and Aberdeen.
