Kollmorgen adds PROFINET interface to motion control platform

·   Available in the UK from Heason Technology, Kollmorgen's unique Kollmorgen Automation Suite (KAS) and the AKD PDMM now offer even more flexible options when choosing a communications system

Slinfold, UK - February 2013
: Kollmorgen has expanded its Kollmorgen Automation Suite (KAS) motion control platform with the addition of a PROFINET interface option. Available in the UK from motion control specialists Heason Technology, the new fieldbus interface increases the communications flexibility of the automation system for machine builders and end-users alike, further enabling the realization of the best possible application performance. Thanks to the extremely user-friendly automation software, the new PROFINET interface is also available for existing users and is furthermore of benefit when used with Kollmorgen's AKD PDMM programmable servo drive as the multi-axis master based system is integrated with KAS.

The KAS machine automation platform is tailored specifically for high-performance applications where complex motion sequences and automation processes must be perfectly synchronized. KAS provides high-performance PLC and motion control functionality with choice programming environments. Its intuitive Pipe Network graphical programming environment features drag-and-drop functionality, alternatively KAS fully supports the five standard IEC 61131 programming languages for motion control as well as a PLCopen standard library with numerous motion control function blocks. The advanced control algorithms and high speed control loops integrated into KAS make operation possible with higher bandwidth and provide greater throughput.

Kollmorgen's PDMM AKD multi-axis master servo drives integrated with the KAS motion control platform combine superior dynamic performance with compactness and an extremely high degree of flexibility and scalability. The two-in-one solution - motion and machine controller - replaces the separate industrial PC (IPC) concept and opens fresh possibilities for the design and operation of single-and multi-axis machines. Machine builders and end-users can ultimately realize a significant competitive advantage.
