Krohne upgrades PICK app for better field device access

KROHNE Group, a leading global manufacturer and supplier of process instrumentation, has upgraded its PICK (Product Information Center KROHNE) mobile app by integrating a new barcode scanning functionality. The feature simplifies how customers access product information for their KROHNE field devices.

The PICK app is part of KROHNE's myDevice suite of smart service tools. It enables users to retrieve information by scanning Data Matrix codes directly off equipment nameplates or stickers, rather than by manually entering serial numbers. This allows field workers to call up documents like manuals, quick-start guides, datasheets, or instructional videos in just a single scan.

Previously, KROHNE utilized an open-source scanning solution, which suffered from issues with Data Matrix code detection and performance. The integration of the Scanbot SDK brought a marked improvement in scanning reliability and speed. Benedikt Niermann, Process Improvement Officer at KROHNE Group, states, "Switching to Scanbot SDK from ZXing significantly improved our ability to scan Data Matrix codes. We evaluated several solutions, and the Scanbot SDK provided the perfect blend of performance and value."

The PICK app is free of charge, and KROHNE’s ability to maintain the free service benefits from the Scanbot SDK’s flat-rate pricing. Since the scanner processes data directly on the device, it requires no network connection. This allows users to capture and store serial numbers even in remote locations. They can then access and download the data when connectivity is available.
