UK flowmeter specialist Litre Meter (www.litremeter.com) has shipped highly customised VFF positive displacement flowmeters to a leading flow equipment solutions provider for use in subsea chemical injection applications at a number of sites around the world.The meters are the result of a partnership programme to develop the VFF rotary piston flowmeter to be used subsea, on a range of chemicals, over a wide range of flows and at high pressure. Litre Meter was able to meet the challenge of producing a robust yet highly accurate meter that can be calibrated at specific viscosities.
The meters were customised to be more compact than a normal VFF meter yet work at 690 bar internal and 345 bar external pressures. Physical vapour deposition (PVD) is used extensively to improve the flow range and longevity of each meter.
The meter forms an integral part of a chemical injection system. It measures the flow rate of chemical application and provides accurate feedback to the system. The meter features a pressure balance chamber based on Litre Meter's LF15 VFF positive displacement meter. Smaller versions are now available including the LF05 and soon-to-be announced LF03.
PVD coated LF15 VFF flowmeters are suitable for measuring liquids at pressures up to 4,000 bar (60,000 psi) and flow rates from 0.008 l/hr to over 90 l/hr depending on the viscosity of the fluid being measured. They are of intrinsically safe design and manufactured to operate reliably at temperatures ranging from -40 to 100°C.
