Malcolm Brinded CBE FEI appointed Energy Institute President Elect among industry leaders joining Council

Four leading figures in the energy industry have been appointed as Energy Institute (EI) Vice-Presidents following the EI's AGM in London on 28 June, at which Malcolm Brinded CBE FREng FEI also took on the role of President-Elect. Malcolm (pictured), who joined the EI's Council in 2013, will succeed Professor Jim Skea CBE FEI as EI President in 2017 for a two-year term.

Dr Bernie Bulkin FEI, Director of Ludgate Investment and existing EI Trustee, is joined by Vivienne Cox CBE, who has held a number of senior executive roles at BP and now chairs Vallourec, Steve Holliday FREng FEI, formerly CEO of National Grid, and Ceri Powell FEI, Global Head of Exploration at Shell. They take their positions on Council after being nominated by the EI's Trustees and appointed by the membership and will serve for a period of three years.

Professor Skea CBE FEI, President and Chair of the Nominations Committee, said, 'We are honoured to welcome Vivienne, Steve and Ceri on Council alongside Bernie as the EI's Vice-Presidents. The Board of Trustees, and the EI as a whole, will greatly benefit from the immense experience and expertise that they will bring to our work. Their seniority and diversity of backgrounds will provide invaluable insight in championing the development of the knowledge, skills and good practice needed to support the energy system of the future.'

'As for Malcolm, I know he will make a terrific EI President - his knowledge, enthusiasm and vision will give further momentum to the growing impact of the EI as an authoritative and respected contributor to the energy debate. I congratulate him on his appointment.'

Malcolm Brinded FEI added, 'Jim will be a hard act to follow - with the Energy Barometer in particular, he has taken the EI to a new level in demonstrating its value. And with Vivienne, Steve and Ceri joining Council, which already features a creative and dynamic team, it will be an exhilarating task to capture the huge amount of expertise and wisdom sitting around the table in order to steer the work of the EI. I'll be delighted to take up the role and engage with them all.'

The AGM also saw the election of Professor John Currie CEng FEI and Dr Boma Douglas CEng MEIs to Council.
