MATTEI COMPRESSORS MAKES A SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT TO BOLSTER PRODUCTION
21/01/2011 Mattei Compressors Ltd
The headquarters of rotary vane compressor manufacturer Mattei has made a significant investment in its existing premises to bring the HQ business functions, assembly, testing and training facilities together on one site. The improved facilities will be based at the existing HQ site in Vimodrone, Milan. Not only will the upgraded headquarters make the best use of the space available, but Mattei has also introduced an advanced, fully computerised testing system that will be managed in-house.
In addition, the compressor assembly process has been overhauled at Mattei Vimodrone. The main improvements have been made to the production lines with the highest volumes - 100/200 series line and the 400/500 series line. These have been redesigned into more dynamic assembly cells, with increased flexibility. Each cell is now capable of assembling up to 20 different models, with 90 per cent of the components lying within easy reach of the operator.
An added benefit is that the assembly of the compressors is performed on hydraulic, height adjustable mobile platforms. The complete process is subsequently more streamlined, reducing both production times and in-house logistic requirements.
Giulio Contaldi has been CEO of Mattei since January 2009 and has been gradually making positive changes. He said: "Everything that is currently underway at Mattei is the direct result of a four-year restructuring and business growth plan that we have been steadily implementing.
"Increased efficiency is vital for growth in this difficult economic climate and our improved site in Milan is certainly a step in the right direction."
To oversee the changes in Italy and ensure the smooth running of the company, Mattei has appointed new operations manager Alberto Del Grossi. Alberto was responsible for managing all of the building work and drew on his vast experience to remodel the logistical operations and the assembly line.
