MEASURING UP TO DEMANDS

ยท New SITRANS FUT 1010 ultrasonic flow meter is first of its kind to offer custody-transfer accuracy, together with minimal maintenance demandsSiemens Industry has introduced a new addition to its extensive ultrasonic flow measurement portfolio. The SITRANS FUT 1010 liquid and gas flow meter is designed to suit diverse applications across the demanding liquid and gas hydrocarbon industries.
Matt Bird from Siemens Industry, comments: "The SITRANS FUT 1010 liquid and gas flow meter offers a number of innovative operational and cost-related advantages which have been proven in use to meet the specific and challenging needs of the liquid and gas hydrocarbon industries. This means it offers many advantages over traditional inline meters when it comes to flow measurement precision and custody transfer solutions. In fact, its innovative qualities have just been independently acknowledged as it has won the Flow Control Innovation Award."
Widebeam signal processing
The FUT 1010 uses innovative Widebeam transit time technology, which increases flow measurement precision by reducing the sensitivity to changes in the medium's physical properties. The resonant frequency of the pipe wall is used to transmit the beam into the media with the wall acting as a waveguide. As a result of this technology, a strong coherent signal is generated on which the FUT 1010's high accuracy and range ability is based.
Innovative TransLoc transducer mounting system
With the newly developed permanent and unique TransLoc mounting system, Widebeam sensors are permanently mounted on the outside of the pipe. As such, it provides custody transfer accuracy while eliminating any contact with the medium. Use of such non-intrusive ultrasonic transducers - which are sealed in an IP65 enclosure rating - not only protects them from harsh operating environments, but it also significantly reduces the required levels of maintenance for the meter, with typical maintenance scheduled for every three years. This compares to a typical insertion spool maintenance regime requiring attention twice a year.
Matt Bird continues: "The savings in maintenance required are significant and can help increase the productivity and improve the operational efficiency of a site with less need for downtime or interruption of processes."
The external mounting allows the transducers to be calibrated for higher accuracy and provides an additional benefit as it alleviates clogging of cavities by, for example, high paraffin liquids. This is often seen in conventional flow meters used in hydrocarbon applications.
Flexibility
The FUT 1010 is capable of measuring almost any hydrocarbon liquid at viscosities up to 2,800 CST, compared with the typical 300 CSTt limit on inline meters.
Typical liquid applications for the SITRANS FUT 1010 include pipelines, terminals and refineries, while its accuracy and robust benefits make it ideal for the needs of upstream gas applications at production wells through to downstream electric power generation and gas processing plants.
The FUT 1010 is suitable for use in water, multiple crude oils, gasoline, kerosene, jet fuel, diesel, fuel oils and liquefied gas applications, as well as natural gas, process gases (N2, O2, CO,Ar), helium and hydrogen.
