NanoKTN Supports the University of Southampton ORC on Dissemination of Transnational ACTPHAST Project

The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN - www.nanoktn.com), one of the UK's primary knowledge-based networks for Micro and Nanotechnologies, is pleased to announce its support for the creation of a transnational Access Centre for Photonics Innovation Solutions and Technology Support (ACTPHAST) to remove roadblocks to innovation, and provide a one-stop shop solution for industry to avail of the best in European photonics research expertise and technology platforms.The NanoKTN will work with the University of Southampton's Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), one of the world's leading institutes for photonics research, to help fast-track SME business and employment growth through photonics innovation in UK industry and businesses.
Through its 23 consortium partners across Europe, ACTPHAST will be able to call on any number of over 200 experts with specialist expertise in the many different areas of photonics who will be primed and ready to support European companies in solving their business challenges through targeted innovation projects. Projects will be of short duration (6-9 months) to accelerate time-to-market, and will be 100% subsidised for SMEs up to a maximum value of funding of -‚¬80k.
Dr Alec Reader, Director at the NanoKTN, commented, "We believe there is great innovation potential with photonics in the nanotechnology sector and welcome the enabling power and opportunities that photonics can bring to UK SMEs. Many SMEs face barriers in working through the innovation process and ACTPHAST will provide a unique support structure to remove these innovation barriers and help fast-track the innovation process. The NanoKTN will be collaborating with the ORC to reach out to as many suitable customers as possible in UK industry to make this valuable EU initiative accessible to them."
The NanoKTN will be supporting the ACTPHAST project in its outreach activities by providing opportunities for representatives from ACTPHAST to speak and present at events, including the recent NanoEntrepreneurs event, and facilitate connections between ACTPHAST and NanoKTN member companies, especially SMEs.
