New desktop case creator from RS Components eases production of custom electronic enclosures

Custom Case, the latest add-on for DesignSpark Mechanical, delivers click-to-order convenience with fast turnaround and low minimum order quantityRS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the global distributor for engineers, has launched Custom Case, a new add-on for DesignSpark Mechanical that enables developers to create custom cases using simple desktop tools and then click to order for delivery within 10 days.
Custom Case eliminates the overheads associated with producing cases for prototypes or small production runs. Engineers without access to expensive design software and an in-house machine-shop, or the time and budget to outsource mechanical services, can now produce professional-looking cases on a fast-turnaround basis at a price that is cost-effective even in small quantities.
Custom Case requires only the latest version 2 (2015.0) of DesignSpark Mechanical and the current Custom Case update to be installed. Creating the tailored design starts with choosing the case type and dimensions, and then selecting cutters for the required apertures. The user then finalises the design with the DesignSpark Mechanical tools, before checking the BOM and ordering the quantity required. Live BOM and price information helps to manage costs, and the design can also be saved for re-ordering in the future.
"All case purchases are customised in some way," explained Ken Stevenson, RS Components Global Category Manager for Enclosures. "Our new Custom Case service now makes this a straightforward online process, with the convenience of sourcing the complete bill of materials from a single supplier."
The Custom Case service is initially available in the UK only.
