New Scalance W products for use in railway environments

Nuremberg, Germany. The Siemens Industry Automation Division is extending its Scalance W product portfolio for Industrial Ethernet networks used in outdoor environments. The new Scalance W788-M12 EEC series comes with Industrial WLAN (IWLAN) access points and client modules and is designed for deployment in the rail industry.

The devices of the Scalance W788-M12 EEC series are in compliance with all relevant parts of the EN 50155 standard governing railway applications, making them suitable for rail traffic. Used in combination with antenna types approved for railway environments which are connected using N-Connect (female) sockets, Scalance W products are capable of establishing a reliable IWLAN radio infrastructure in outdoor situations. Siemens Industry Automation offers a range of antennas for IWLAN solutions both for use in rolling stock and trackside.

The robust housing material used and a protection class IP65 make the new Scalance W788-M12 products ideal for use in harsh outdoor conditions (humidity, dust, shock and vibration). The circuit boards and electronic components are additionally protected by conformal coating which gives them added resistance to moisture, makes them less susceptible to faults and permits higher system networking availability. The new devices are also available as a controller variant.
