NEWEY & EYRE SAY NOW IS THE TIME TO DRIVE FORWARD EV ADOPTION

With recent reports indicating a rise in the uptake of electric vehicles, Newey & Eyre says now is the time for the industry to get its foot on the accelerator to help drive forward the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.According to new government data1, the number of alternative fuelled cars on Britain's roads has more than doubled in the last year. In fact, the report indicates a whopping 120 per cent increase in EV sales, with only 20,522 plug-in and hybrid cars on the streets at the end of 2014, rising to 45,326 by the end of last year. This compares to only a two per cent rise in the sales of traditional cars over the same period.
Kevin Norman, senior product manager for electric vehicle (EV) chargers at Newey & Eyre comments: "These figures paint a positive picture for the EV market, representing an accelerated growth that is likely to only expand further as innovation in technology continues.
"As underlined in the Queen's Speech last week2, the governments new Modern Transport Bill is set to support the development of the transportation technology sector, including autonomous and electric vehicles.
"But even more, the new bill is set to help encourage commercial building owners and local authorities to make steps for the provision of plug-in vehicles. According to the Go Ultra Low campaign2, there are now over 10,000 publically accessible charging points across the UK, with more and more units being installed each month. In fact, the average distance between charging points is only 3.8 miles, making electric vehicles a realistic option for both domestic and commercial users alike.
Kevin continues: "Technological developments have already vastly improved charging times, bringing it down to just 20 minutes, and the improvements to vehicle range capabilities offer almost 200 miles per day3. This is quickly creating a more tantalising proposition for those on the fence about switching to EVs.
"Clearly 2016 is set to be a big year for the EV market, so it's important for manufacturers, installers and businesses to ensure they are working to develop the UKs charging infrastructure, and in turn, bring to fruition a truly low carbon future of the vehicle industry."
With this in mind, Newey & Eyre can offer a whole host of Newlec charging solutions. The range includes various types of charging units to reflect the mode of charging, whether it is a residential, commercial or public charge point, or if the charging point is to be wall mounted or ground mounted.
For domestic users, the Newlec Wall-Pod: EV Ready unit provides the ultimate low-cost, future proof solution. This innovative charger charges in Mode 2 format and doubles up as an outdoor IP65 rated domestic 13amp maintenance socket, while being easily upgradeable to the full Mode 3 fast charging format.
Equally innovative, the new Newlec EV SecuriCharge (wall mounted) and EV AutoCharge (pedestal) are both heavy duty, hard wearing, vandal resistant EV charging unit specifically designed for public facing and exposed commercial locations.
