Norpak demonstrates the benefits of Toshiba TEC's APLEX4 technology at PPMA Show 2017

Longstanding approved Toshiba TEC reseller, Norpak, has announced that it will be appearing at the PPMA Show 2017, which takes place on the 26th-28th September at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham. Norpak will use this opportunity to showcase some of Toshiba TEC's printing technology, including APLEX4 - a low cost automatic label print and application system that combines high performance and cost effectiveness.

APLEX4 has the ability to accommodate in-line operation with thermal transfer and direct thermal media, making it suitable for even the most demanding environments. It can handle production levels of up to 30 labels per minute and is available in resolutions of 200, 300 and 600dpi. With an in-built backlit LCD graphical user interface, access to information and settings is simple and the APLEX4 can be set to apply labels from the top, bottom or sides and at any rotation angle required. In addition, it can seamlessly integrate into existing legacy systems, without the need to modify a host system's hardware or software.

Norpak has devised an innovative way of using APLEX4, which it will also demonstrate at the PPMA Show 2017. Gary Day explained, 'After listening to our customers it was clear that some of them had no requirement for a fully automated in-line system but, at the same time, needed a solution that could speed up the labelling process and free up production line personnel for other tasks. Therefore, we have configured APLEX4 as a semi-automated system by integrating a footswitch. Manually pressing the footswitch triggers the system to run through its cycle - printing a label and dispensing it to the vacuum pad, which comes down and affixes the label on to the product. Labels are printed on an "as needed" basis, meaning that they print one at a time and a specific job can be cancelled at any point in the process. This can significantly reduce the amount of wastage incurred.'

Ideal for short production runs, not only does it speed up the process but also ensures that the labels are affixed accurately. Packages are produced in different shapes, sizes and dimensions, so being able to affix the labels on accurately is vital. The semi-automated solution offers the flexibility to accommodate different tasks and volumes and is also future proof, as by simply taking the footswitch away the APLEX4 can become fully automated.
