Pennine Pneumatic Services, an Atlas Copco Compressors' Premier Distributor in West Yorkshire, is celebrating its 20th year in the compressed air business. Founders and joint directors, Gary Whitaker and Leighton Harris, attribute the company's commercial success to its ability to offer cost effective and energy efficient solutions, setting a clear strategy with market leading suppliers to ensure long term support for businesses in the region.Pennine Pneumatic Services (PPS) has been an authorised Atlas Copco Compressors distributor for 20 years. From its Halifax site, the company offers complete compressed air solutions specialising in the design, supply, installation and after sales service of industrial and automotive compressed air systems. It provides a full range of ancillary and air related products, in-line filters, compressed air dryers, oil condensate removal systems and pipe work installations. PPS also has a dedicated energy audit department to carry out full site air audits and leak surveys using the latest Atlas Copco iiTrak loggers to provide a reliable and cost-effective energy efficient compressed air package.
In fact, the two directors believe the ever-increasing cost of electrical energy has had a profound influence on the way compressed air business is conducted today. As Leighton Harris comments: "These days it is reasonable to expect any professional organisation to offer the most cost effective and energy efficient solution. In partnership with Atlas Copco, Pennine applied this policy many years ago and it is this approach which we believe has set us apart from our competitors, leading to the success we enjoy today".
The company was first established in Halifax in July 1991 as Pennine Air Services by Gary Whitaker. In September 1991 he joined forces with Pneumatic Services, which was the appointed Atlas Copco distributor in Yorkshire at that time. Leighton Harris, who joined the company soon after, was originally a mechanical engineer who went on to work in technical sales for two separate compressed air specialists before joining Pennine Pneumatic Services in 1992.
As the business grew, Pennine Pneumatic Services moved in 1995 to much larger premises in Halifax, with better workshop facilities, a 5 tonne overhead crane and an equipment showroom. From then on, developments in the last ten years have included a trade counter and, more recently, completely refurbished open plan offices.
Another key factor in the company's success is that it has always focused on the after sales service side of the business. The directors believe that high standards of after sales care and customer support is a key to the success of their operation and define 'service' as rapid response, fast diagnosis, quality workmanship and speedy reinstatement of the customer's compressed air system.
