New from Drive Lines is a food safe version of the innovative and popular PowerGear spiral bevel gearbox manufactured by MS Graessner GmbH. It has a gear housing coated with Duralloy-TDC (thin dense chrome), a material which Zurich-based test bureau Labor Veritas has verified as safe for use with food technology equipment.Duralloy TDC is an extremely hard, crack-free, precise, very thin and ultra-pure metallic chromium layer. It offers a high corrosion resistance, and in particular provides effective protection against friction and vibration related corrosion. It also offers outstanding chemical resistance, making it particularly useful in food industry applications that are subject to vigorous washdown.
These latest PowerGear units also make use of stainless steel shafts that resist corrosion and are lubricated for life with food grade oil. The result is that users developing equipment for hygienic applications can take full advantage of the PowerGear range, which combines a highly compact design with numerous sizes and flexible configurations.
The PowerGear range of high performance bevel gearboxes is characterised by high torques at high speeds from a compact, lightweight package. Output torques of up to 7,000Nm are available and with efficiency ratings of 98% energy costs are kept low. Gear ratios from 1:1 to 5:1 are available, with output via flange, solid or hollow shaft in multiple flexible configurations. Lubricated for life, the gearboxes are virtually maintenance-free under normal operating conditions.
Throughout the PowerGear range 11 gearbox sizes from P54 to P450 reset user expectations for power and precision, in versions that open up new applications in food processing. Design features include a case-hardened Gleason bevel gear tooth system, a friction-locked shaft and bevel gear, all in an extremely lightweight housing. The result is low backlash and high transmission accuracy.
The standard PowerGear range offers input speeds up to 7500rpm for medium torque P-Versions, and up to 4000rpm for the highest torque X-Versions. PowerGear gearboxes are also available in miniature versions and high speed versions, meeting the needs of the most diverse spread of applications.
