Precision Acoustics Launch Eco-friendlier Packaging

The manufacturing sector isn’t instantly recognised as a trailblazer in the environmental stakes. They use a lot of resources on both the manufacture and distribution elements. But Precision Acoustics, leading global manufacturer of hydrophones, ultrasound transducers, ultrasound test stations and acoustic materials, recognise that they have a responsibility to try and reduce their environmental footprint.
As innovators in their sector, Precision Acoustics are continually looking at where they can make efficiencies in their business processes. Alongside looking for business improvements, they also regularly seek to implement changes to their practices to positively impact factors associated with climate change.
It follows that as quantities of products manufactured have increased, so has the overall use of packaging, specifically plastic. This has led to a re-think by the design team of how to store and despatch certain products in a more environmentally mindful way.
A driving force behind the need to change was the introduction of a standard range, which increased volume and therefore packaging, and the company knew it was time to act. Part of the shift, and following a rigorous design process during 2020, saw the launch a new range of packaging for Precision Acoustics’s transducer range.
The new packs ensure the overall integrity of the instruments, but compared to the old packaging, use 91% less plastic by weight and it is 59% lighter, resulting in not only less plastic, but a lower transportation footprint for shipping around the world.
