QED Environmental Systems Achieves ISO 14001 Accreditation
09/06/2023 QED Environmental Systems, Inc.
QED Environmental Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer of innovative environmental products and subsidiary of Graco Inc., has demonstrated its commitment to sustainable business operations by attaining the ISO 14001 environmental management certification.
ISO 14001 was launched in 2015 and is the International Organisation for Standardisation’s (ISO) premier standard for establishing an effective environmental management system, providing assurances to staff and external stakeholders alike that a business’ environmental impact is being measured and continually improved upon.
The certification is accessible to businesses in all sectors and requires organisations to consider all environmental issues relevant to its operations, such as air pollution, water and sewage issues, waste management, soil contamination, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and resource use and efficiency.
QED Environmental Systems’ recent changes to achieve ISO 14001 include carbon footprint offsetting, a switch to completely recyclable packaging, partnering with UPS for carbon-neutral shipping, and optimising electricity usage in the company’s European headquarters in Coventry, with the latter achieving an 8.34% reduction between 2021 and 2022.
Dean Kavanagh, Managing Director at QED Environmental Systems, said: “Through the collaborative efforts of our team, I’m happy to announce that the business is officially ISO 14001-certified. We see the certification as a culmination of our ongoing efforts to create a more environmentally friendly business operation, and we felt the positive impact of the changes to our day-to-day processes long before the full certification was achieved.
“Working towards ISO 14001 required us to take a granular view on our operations across all areas of the business. This meant developing a comprehensive understanding of our environmental impact in all areas – spanning manufacturing, transport, emergency procedures and more.”
QED’s ISO 14001 certification builds upon two other ISO certifications attained by the business, ISO 9001 for quality management, and ISO/IEC 17025 for testing and calibration.
Dean concluded: “We have always put stock in the value of ISO standards, as it allows us to demonstrate to our customers that we are able to deliver high-quality products in a sustainable manner. Achieving ISO 14001 is a significant landmark on our journey to becoming a net zero business, and we will continue to strive to provide the best for both our customers and the planet.”
