The latest range of DC injection brakes from motor control expert Ralspeed offer a simple and effective way of bringing motors quickly and safely to a stop. In appropriate applications, this can be a useful aid to meeting the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).Manufactured in Germany by Peter Electronic, for whom Ralspeed is the sole UK agent, the compact units in the range are easy to accommodate within control panels, In addition they require no mechanical components to be added to the motor or the drive, making them ideal for upgrading existing machines to improve braking performance, as well as for use in new projects.
In many applications, the improved braking offered by the units not only reduces maintenance requirements but also extends the life of the machine as it minimises unnecessary wear and tear.
DC injection brakes from Ralspeed are easy to install and set up. They are available with ratings from 6 A to 600 A, allowing them to be used with standard low voltage motors of almost any size. The units can be supplied in versions for three-phase applications in all sizes.
For applications where braking is required to continue until the motor comes to a complete stop, Ralspeed offers the Versibrake LP units with ratings up to 30 A. These provide infinitely variable control over braking current and feature an integrated braking contactor, all within a standard 45 mm wide DIN housing. To ensure the highest levels of safety, braking is controlled both by the motor contactor, and by motor voltage detection. Other models with similar features are available for use with larger motors.
For those applications where time-dependent braking is preferred, Ralspeed can supply type VB braking devices, which feature a volt-free contact that can be used to energise the star contactor in star delta starters during braking, and type BR braking devices, which provide an inexpensive method of braking multiple motors.
