Revolutionary yacht docking automation

An innovative control system, offering unparalleled boat manoeuvrability, has been created following the partnership of two automation specialists.Blackburn based LC Automation worked with control systems expert Horizon Integration after a UK sailing boat manufacturer approached them to improve the steering control of their range of yachts.
Stuart Harris at Horizon Integration, said: "Parking can be a nightmare at the best of times, but it becomes a little harder when you are at the helm of a 48ft sailing yacht.
"We needed to identify a system which would add a whole host of control options to the boats, without compromising on engine power or space available. With such a complex and challenging application, I really appreciated the advice and support of LC Automation, who supply our Mitsubishi products."
LC Automation suggested a special programmable logic controller, Mitsubishi's FX3u, to help with mechanics of handling the bow thruster, which lowers from inside the hull when docking mode is selected.
The captain now has fingertip joystick control of the propulsion system, hydraulic sail functions and deck winches.
The revolutionary new system ensures the engine's power is used in the most efficient way possible, and provides the ideal benefits to yacht operation.
Last year, LC Automation saw a 25% increase in turnover, as the company looked to supply growth industries. Managers at the company also completed an MBO following the retirement of a previous owner.
LC Automation stock products from 21 of the worlds leading suppliers of factory automation and safety products. They offer exceptional support and training programs to a vast range of industries.
